Mini Collage: Rising Sun

"Rising Sun"
4 x 4 inches
Collage on Hardboard Panel

Hello, and happy Friday to you! It is a glorious sunny day, I'm happy to say, lol! I'm off to take some new photos this afternoon, but thought I'd share this first. Collage is so much fun, and I'm enjoying every minute of this new learning experience. I like this one best of everything I've done thus far. Had to add in that butterfly, though. I guess I'm not ready to lose all of the realism yet. Maybe I'll get there one day. :o)

Thank you for visiting, and have a wonderful weekend!

More of the Same...Clouds and Rain

The wind was really whipping late this afternoon. There was also debris being burned somewhere nearby, hence the smoke.
The photo doesn't show the clouds as dark and spooky as they really looked . The rain came not long after this photo was taken, along with thunder and gusty wind.

I took these photos this afternoon just before the rain came. It's like a jungle just beyond our backyard, as you can see. I tried taking photos of my recent art as well, but they turned out badly...too much incandescent light. I need some light from the outdoors, as it is just too dark inside to get good photos. It seems to balance things out somehow. Will try again tomorrow.

Not to wish my time away, but I am so ready for Autumn!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful Wednesday! :o)

Stormy Weather

"Unknown Rose on a Sunny Day"

The weather here for the past several weeks has been dismal. I'm posting the above photo so that I can remember what a sunny day looks like, lol! This has been the wettest summer we've had in many a year. Usually by this time of year the grass looks pretty well scorched from heat and lack of rain. This year we are having to work hard to keep the plant life from taking over, as well as the heat and humidity loving insects (the worst being the mosquitoes...UGH!). I'm having to post some of my older photos now in 'Photo of the Day', as it's been cloudy or overcast so much of the time when it wasn't actually raining and photos taken under those conditions look pretty dull. Hopefully I'll be able to get some new ones soon...before I completely run out of pictures to share...please...(saying a little prayer) :o).

I have some new work to share in my next post. Here's hoping I can get some decent photos indoors.

Thank you for visiting, and have a terrific Tuesday!

ACEO: Hope, Dream, Believe

"Hope, Dream, Believe"
2.5 x 3.5 inches
Mixed Media Collage on Mixed Media Paper

The title says it all, and it's what I do every day as I attempt to grow as an artist and a person. I'm creating now in ways I would not have imagined several years ago and I am so much happier for it.

I'm working my way through Randel Plowman's book "Collage Workshop - How to Get Started and Stay Inspired". It has 50 great prompts and lots of useful information for anyone new to collage or even those who have been enjoying it for a while. Working through a prompt a day is like a great adventure for me. I get all my papers laid out the night before and the next morning I can hardly wait to get started. He is also offering a 52-week workshop that begins on August 18 for a very reasonable price. Check out his blog at

Thank you for visiting my blog, and have a wonderful weekend. :o)

Another Mixed Media Collage ACEO Experiment

"Laugh, Love, Create"
2.5 x 3.5 inches
Mixed Media Collage on Mixed Media Paper

Another little experiment in mixed media collage. I used mostly collage materials this time; only used acrylic paint for spattering a bit in the background. Distress ink was used on the edges. I also used a ladybug stamp and painted her with pink acrylic paint. I'm trying to do things a little differently with each piece. It's fun seeing how they turn out. :o)

ACEO Mixed Media Collage: Smile

3.5 x 2.5 inches
Mixed Media Collage on Mixed Media Paper

I painted the background in acrylics before adding the collage elements. It was so much fun, and easier than choosing papers for the background. I can just choose the collage elements that I want to use and then paint a background that will set them off nicely. The bird and flowers are among my favorite subjects and always make me smile. I also used some Pebeo dimensional paint around the word 'smile'.

Thank you for taking a moment to look at my art. Have a great day! :o)

Nature Collage

4 x 4 inches
Mixed media collage on hardboard

I've been working a lot in mixed media these past weeks, with great interest in collage...paper, found items, fabrics, lace, ribbons, washi tape, stickers, dried flowers and leaves, and so on. I have gathered enough of these things to get in a great deal of practice and look forward to doing so. I love nature-themed art, as it comes most naturally to me having loved animals and birds since childhood. As I have grown older, I have developed a great love for plants and trees as well. I expect they will be the focus of much of what I do, though I also enjoy making abstract paintings and want to try some abstract collages in time. I have to become a bit more comfortable with the process first, though. I don't know why but it seems so much easier to paint these things. :o)

Thank you for visiting, and have a wonderful Wednesday!
